A delectable mobile handset known as the ‘Chocolate Phone’, first in LG Electronics (LG) black-label phone series has become the favourite treat of handset buyers worldwide. The phone from LG, a leader in consumer electronics and mobile communications, officially débuted in London, U.K. in early May and continued its tour to China, Russia, Mexico, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Turkey, Iran and U.A.E.. There are still upcoming launch events in other cities around the world. The earliest event is scheduled on May 29 in Bangkok. The phone has been sparking a buzz among trendsetters and socialites in every fashion capital.
Mr. Mun-Hwa Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said, “The Chocolate phone is for discerning customers, in every market worldwide, who view mobile phones as fashion statements. LG is now positioning its mobile handsets as premium products and this stunning phone is just the beginning. The global launch has been extremely successful and we are already seeing a flood of reorders.”
More than half a million Chocolate Phones have been sold worldwide in the four weeks since the global launch in London, where the phone has already sold out. Retailers there are anxiously awaiting additional shipments, and there are long waiting lists of customers with a craving for Chocolate. The phone has also taken the No. 1 best seller position at Carphone Warehouse, the largest European mobile phone retail chain. It also took the top sales spot in Mexico, with 25% market share, beating Motorola’s Razr when it was launched there. Saudi retailers have already signed numerous pre-release sales contracts for the phone, anticipating a huge demand. It is no wonder why the Chocolate phone was chosen for the cover of Swedish mobile phone specialty magazine Mobil, which touted it as the next million unit seller after Razr.
The Chocolate Phone’s success results from the combination of its excellent design, marketing and a proactive sales strategy. LG has hired Colleen McLoughlan, fashion icon and girlfriend of premier leaguer Wayne Rooney, as UK’s primary Chocolate phone ambassador. She mentioned, “The LG Chocolate phone is working as an accessory for any outfit. It’s unique, sleek and exactly the right size to pop into any handbag for any occasion. The black and red theme really makes this phone stand out and the touch sensitive buttons make it beautiful.”
The Chocolate phones have also been presented as gifts for celebrities like Pierce Brosnan, Gwyneth Paltrow and Claudia Shiffer in London launch event. The strategy to position the phone in the luxury market was a great success. In Taiwan, a huge buzz was created prior to the launch event, because of a massive outdoor advertising campaign, and buzz among bloggers. LG use of locale tailored marketing strategies and securing of sales channels through major retailers, led to the incredible sales success.
Though the Chocolate phone phenomenon is expected to continue for the time being, LG is already planning the next move to secure its premium position in global mobile industry, now being established.

The AMD LIVE! PC is designed to help consumers get more enjoyment out of their digital media by consolidating their content in a central location and delivering the tools to help them easily and seamlessly access that content through the devices they already have.
“Today customers are looking for PCs that will allow them to view, interact and play new content from broadcast television to music to games,” said Tom Anderson, vice president of marketing, global consumer PCs, Personal Systems Group, HP. “By offering AMD LIVE! branded PCs, our customers will have the ability to buy a PC that will meet their evolving entertainment needs.”
“We’ve seen remarkable enthusiasm for Windows XP Media Center Edition PCs, which enable consumers to enjoy their photos, music, TV shows and movies throughout the home,” said Mike Sievert, corporate vice president, Windows Client Marketing at Microsoft. “By collaborating with AMD to deliver a powerful combination of digital entertainment software on a strong media platform, Microsoft is helping to provide consumers with rich, engaging experiences.”
The first solutions to be offered in the AMD LIVE! Entertainment Suite include AMD LIVE! On Demand powered by Orb Networks: a service that streams live or pre-recorded television programs, photos, music and movies to many common Web-connected devices; AMD LIVE! Compress: a tool that optimizes recorded television content in order to save space and time, enabling customers to save up to 10 times as many TV shows on their PC; AMD LIVE! Over time, the website will evolve into a repository of tips and tools to help consumers build out their entertainment world. With home networks, and using technology such as Microsoft Media Center Extender, the site will be available both in a “two-foot” Internet in the study and “10-foot” television experience in the living room.
“Our vision for AMD LIVE! is to apply the power and flexibility of AMD64 processors in ways that help consumers to get a richer entertainment experience when and where they want, using their favorite entertainment components and devices,” said Joe Menard, corporate vice president, Consumer Business Segment, AMD. “Moving forward, our mission is to put in place the additional technology and expand the ecosystem to make these new experiences even more simple and enjoyable.”
AMD recently announced their agreement with STMicroelectronics to develop world-class, high-definition networked set-top box solutions for consumers to connect to a desktop or notebook PC, transforming the TV experience from traditional and “linear” to a new, interactive experience. AMD and STMicroelectronics will demonstrate this solution from June 6-9 at Computex in Taipei, Taiwan.
AMD LIVE! PCs will improve consumers’ connectivity by enabling their PC to stream music through their entertainment center, view and share photos on the TV, burn recorded TV shows, videos, music and pictures to a DVD or CD, or transfer this same content to a notebook, MP3, portable media player (PMP) or personal digital assistant (PDA). Consumers will be able to build their entertainment world at their pace with AMD LIVE! PCs designed for flexibility, built for longevity and engineered for the future.

STAY COOL THIS SUMMER WITH FUJIFILM'S NEW FINEPIX Z3
Continuing its history of developing digital cameras that look as good as the pictures they take, Fujifilm today announced the launch of the FinePix Z3, the latest model in Fujifilm's slim and stylish Z-Series of digital cameras and the successor to the FinePix Z1.
With an updated body and a new, funky second color – metallic blue – to go along with the traditional silver, the FinePix Z3 appeals to the most fashion-conscious consumer searching for an ultra-portable digicam that looks good as it takes great pictures.
Taking memorable, high-quality photographs while out on the town with friends at a restaurant or other nighttime spot is a challenging exercise for any owner of a compact digital camera. These picture-worthy moments often are snapped in close proximity to the subject and in low light, conditions that can lead to blurry photos, 'washed out' subjects and backgrounds lacking in detail.
With a 6th generation, 5.1 MegaPixel Super CCD sensor and a 2nd generation RP (Real Photo) Processor on board, the delete button may be one of the least-used controls on the FinePix Z3. The controls that will spell the end for those spoiled shots include:
Picture Stabilization
The FinePix Z3 combines higher light sensitivities (up to ISO 1600) with faster shutter speeds to stabilize pictures and reduce blur caused by both camera shake and subject movement. To make it easy for FinePix Z3 users to achieve blur-free results, Fujifilm has added a convenient 'Picture Stabilization' button to the FinePix Z3.
i-Flash
The FinePix Z3's Intelligent-Flash system, or "i-Flash", is more advanced than similar flash systems because it can detect more accurately the subtle lighting differences within a scene, and then light the subject accordingly with a variety of flash intensities. If the subject is off center and standing under a streetlight, the i-Flash system will correct the exposure automatically. i-Flash leads to pictures with more natural looking subjects and backgrounds that are full of bright and crisp detail.
"Natural Light" Shooting Mode
This mode preserves the scene mood and enhances background detail by shooting with faster shutter speeds at higher light sensitivities (if necessary) with a suppressed flash. This mode is perfect for low light moments that would otherwise be ruined by a powerful flash or situations where the use of flash is inappropriate.
Users can also experience the benefits of Natural Light through a feature called the 'Dual Shooting Mode'. In this mode the FinePix Z3 quickly shoots two images in rapid succession – one with and one without the flash – saving both. This convenient function, which is unique to Fujifilm digital cameras, allows for an on-the-spot picture comparison by the user, who can decide which photo is preferred.
In addition to these innovations, the FinePix Z3 has a number of other noteworthy features:
A reinforced, scratch-resistant, 2.5-inch LCD with a 230,000-pixel resolution and Fujifilm's glare-reducing CV Film for better viewing in direct light.
A high-quality, non-extending, refractive 3x optical zoom lens from Fujinon that keeps the FinePix Z3 thin.
Fourteen pre-programmed scene positions that trigger optimal settings based on the surrounding conditions.
VGA movie recording of 30 frames per second with sound.
The FinePix Z3 features 10MB of internal memory, a convenient feature that ensures extra storage space should the user want to squeeze in a couple of additional shots once their xD Picture Card is full.
"The FinePix Z3 has combined Fujifilm's rich photographic legacy with the style and sophistication that made the FinePix Z1 such a popular digital camera," explained David Troy, Senior Product Manager, Consumer Digital Cameras, Electronic Imaging Division, Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. "With industry leading innovations such as Picture Stabilization and the i-Flash system, along with its sleek design and cool new color, the FinePix Z3 is sure to turn heads."
The FinePix Z3 will debut in July 2006 at a retail price of $279.95.

Nokia 5500 Sport: Smartphone with a six-pack
May 10, 2006
Espoo, Finland - On the bank of Iceland's world-famous Blue Lagoon, the Nokia 5500 Sport leaped into the world arena, displaying its sleek, sporty design with an athletic lifestyle appeal. The Nokia 5500 Sport features all the technology that every active-minded consumer needs, and is specially designed to withstand the daily rigours of work and work-out.
"The Nokia 5500 Sport combines the passion and spirit of sports with the latest in mobile communications. It's an ideal companion for an active, urban lifestyle," says Heikki Norta, Senior Vice President, Mobile Phones, Nokia. "There is a very sizeable audience of consumers who demand sport-inspired products, even if they are not professional athletes themselves. The Nokia 5500 Sport offers these consumers a mobile phone suited to their specific needs - during a jog in the park, a day at the beach and even that dress-to-impress first date."
A mode to match your mood
A single button serves to activate three dedicated "modes" - a phone mode to stay in touch, the music mode to unwind or power-up, and the sports mode to help you break a sweat. The Nokia 5500 Sport also offers "text-to-speech" technology. Don't take your eyes off the track or that magazine, just tap the Nokia 5500 Sport and the message is read out to you. In sports mode, the Nokia 5500 Sport reads the status of your workout, allowing you to stay focused on the task, or the excercise, at hand.
When music is on your mind, the Nokia 5500 Sport gives you a jump start. Supporting a multitude of different digital music formats and memory cards of up to 1GB (microSD), the Nokia 5500 Sport can hold approximately 750 songs. With your music collection in hand, every activity has its own soundtrack!
Switched into sports mode, the Nokia 5500 Sport helps you keep track of work or your work-out. The integrated pedometer feature serves to monitor distance walked or calories burnt -during a busy day in the city or that breathtaking cardio session. For extra durability, the Nokia 5500 Sport features an ergonomic stainless steel casing, complemented by a splash and dust resistant shell and rubber grips. The sleek Nokia 5500 Sport is engineered with materials used in the latest high performance running shoes which make it look good on and off the court.
The triband Nokia 5500 Sport (GSM 900/1800/1900) is scheduled to sprint into stores during the summer (3rd quarter) of 2006 and is expected to retail for around 300 EUR before taxes and subsidies.

ATI Boosts Performance and Productivity of Today's Notebook Computers with New Radeon® Xpress™ 1100 Series
ATI Technologies Inc. is squeezing longer life and more performance into today's notebook computers with the introduction of the new Radeon® Xpress™ 1100 series of chipsets, supporting AMD's Turion™ 64 X2 mobile technology. The Radeon Xpress 1100 series is built to deliver the ultimate mobile computing experience on the AMD platform, including industry-leading battery life, a 33 percent faster graphics core, and support for Microsoft Windows Vista. Whether for work or for play, the Radeon Xpress 1100 series is designed to squeeze the maximum productivity and performance out of today's notebooks, while still resulting in ever thinner and lighter designs due to its power- and heat-efficient architecture.
The Radeon Xpress 1100 series will be available through leading notebook OEMs, including Fujitsu-Siemens Computers, Gateway, and HP.
"As industry leaders, ATI and AMD share a common goal to improve the mobile computing experience by increasing and optimizing performance, while driving thin and light notebook designs. AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology has been designed for that purpose, with long battery life and reliability. When combined with ATI's Radeon Xpress 1100 series of chipsets, the two complementary technologies, designed for power efficiency and performance, deliver a leading-edge mobile computing experience," said Chris Cloran, vice president, mobile division, AMD.
The Radeon Xpress 1100 series optimizes performance for the mobile world, providing advanced functionality for today's graphics-intensive business applications, the latest 3D games, and high-quality multimedia and digital entertainment. Features include:
Epic battery life - The Radeon Xpress 1100 series eliminates the need for outlet hounds to hunt down power at airports and cafes, and ensures productive trips for the entire length of long flights, whether it's from New York to Los Angeles or London to Moscow. The Radeon Xpress 1100 series includes ATI's fifth-generation power management technology, Powerplay™, that automatically adjusts the balance between performance and power consumption based on the workload. Through a combination of hardware and software, Powerplay optimizes the clock speed and voltage of the Radeon graphics core, and the LCD refresh rate to extend battery life. In combination with AMD PowerNow!™ technology, a key feature designed into AMD Turion 64 mobile technology, the Radeon Xpress 1100 series with Powerplay delivers the longest battery life yet in an AMD mobile platform.
Faster graphics, better multimedia - Delivering 33 percent faster graphics than the Radeon Xpress 200M, the Radeon Xpress 1100 series provides tremendous value in a mobile platform for today and tomorrow. With support for DDR2 up to 667 MHz and DirectX® 9, Radeon Xpress 1100 series notebooks are ideal for media-intensive tasks such as digital content creation, viewing, and editing. Integrated video processing and acceleration makes DVD playback smooth, and the powerful graphics core easily handles the latest 3D games.
A view to Microsoft Vista™ - While the latest power and graphics features make the Radeon Xpress 1100 series a tremendous value today, the chipset is also future-proof, providing support for the Microsoft Windows Vista premium experience, including the high-resolution 3D Aero™ user interface, graphically intense applications and flawless high-definition content playback. Not only does this ensure that notebook manufacturers and users get the most from their mobile computing investments, but it also makes certain that users can take advantage of all that Windows Vista has to offer upon its release.
"The ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 series of chipsets for AMD-based notebook platforms delivers mobile computing at its best. With industry-leading battery life, superior graphics and digital media capabilities, and support for Microsoft Windows Vista, the ATI platform powered by AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology is well-suited for businesses and consumers alike," said Phil Eisler, senior vice president and general manager, Integrated and Mobile Business Unit, ATI Technologies. "ATI's chipset business is poised for further success with the introduction of this new family of offerings, and continuing innovation in the chipset market that will bear fruit in the weeks and months to come."

Wii Will Offer Unprecedented Video Game Experiences for Everyone
Nintendo's Console Takes the Next Leap in Video Games
LOS ANGELES, May 9, 2006 – For more than 20 years, video game players have used body language to "help" them play. With Nintendo's upcoming Wii console, those movements become a real part of the play. After grabbing the Wii Remote for the first time, hesitation gives way to concentration. Confidence builds. Excitement morphs into pure delight. And everyone watching says the same thing: "Hey – let me try!"
What drives this phenomenon? A remarkable controller and games that enhance the experience … realizing that the swing of your arm – not the movement of your thumb – causes a baseball to leave the park or a sword to find its mark. The Wii console introduces the next leap in gaming, one where players not only control their characters on the screen, but they also become them.
"The Wii console gives every game developer a tool to create new experiences, not just linear advancement," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "It will attract all kinds of new players, and thoroughly satisfy the hard-core gamers."
One of Wii's launch titles will be Wii Sports, a new type of product designed to expand the video game experience to everyone, regardless of age, gender or gaming experience. These games will form the bridge that connects current gamers to newcomers. Wii Sports will include a tennis game that lets up to four players swing at, hear and feel the ball. Anyone can pick up the Wii Remote and start hitting straight shots and lobs, with top spin or a slice, using their forehand or backhand, simply by simulating the arm and wrist movements of a real tennis game. In the baseball game, players can hit or pitch a baseball using the Wii Remote as the characters on the screen mimic their movements. And in the golf game, players can drive the fairways or putt for the cup simply by swinging the Wii Remote as if they were swinging a real golf club. Games can be played with small, precise hand movements, but it's likely people will want to immerse themselves physically in the reality of the experience.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess also will launch at the same time as Wii. It will thrill gamers with its captivating storyline, stunning game play and gorgeous look. The game makes use of the unique Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller for elements like fishing and special sword attacks.
Other Wii games in development include Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, which redefines how first-person shooters look and feel. Players use the Wii Remote as their pinpoint-accurate arm cannon, while the Nunchuk attachment can be used to deploy a variety of functions, such as the Grapple Beam. The amazing Super Mario Galaxy represents a crowning achievement for legendary Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and his team. Mario floats from planet to planet while performing massive zero-gravity jumps in an environment new to gaming fans.
Excite Truck builds on a classic Nintendo franchise, but features a radical play mechanic in which players hold the Wii Remote sideways like a steering wheel. On jumps, they must balance it to make sure their vehicle lands squarely and earns a turbo boost. Many games make racing look real, but Nintendo also makes it feel real. WarioWare: Smooth Moves contains about 200 microgames that will have players holding the Wii Remote to their hips to do a hula-hoop motion, curling it like a barbell or putting it on their head and doing squats.
The Wii console already enjoys strong third-party support. Nintendo is working with every major publisher worldwide to create fresh intellectual properties and host strong, classic franchises on the console. Gamers can look forward to multiple offerings, including:
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Call of Duty 3 from Activision
Sonic and Super Monkey Ball games from Sega
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors and Codename: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers from Square Enix
Madden NFL from Electronic Arts
Rayman Raving Rabbids and Red Steel, the only original first-person game built from the ground up exclusively for the Wii launch, from Ubisoft
and a SpongeBob SquarePants title from THQ
Gamers also can expect ground-breaking offerings from Atari, Buena Vista Games, Eidos, Konami Digital Entertainment, Majesco, Mastiff, Midway Games, Namco Bandai Games, Atlus and SNK. Nintendo and publishers large and small worldwide will introduce original franchises of all kinds, aimed both at pleasing the hard-core crowd and encouraging new generations and demographics of people to play.
"Once again Nintendo has challenged the status quo and opened new creative landscapes for us," says John Schappert, EA Canada's senior vice president and group studio general manager. "We look forward to creating original experiences for the Wii console while seeing how some of our best sellers play using the extraordinary controllers."
In addition to a healthy selection of new games, Wii will enjoy one of the largest launch libraries in video game history thanks to its built-in Virtual Console and backward compatibility with Nintendo GameCube. The Virtual Console provides downloadable access to Nintendo games from the NES, Super NES and Nintendo 64. The Virtual Console also will feature a "best of" selection from Sega Genesis titles and games from the TurboGrafx console (a system jointly developed by NEC and Hudson).
Wii will launch worldwide in the fourth quarter of 2006. Prices and other launch details will be announced at a later date.

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor Unified Brand Name For Upcoming PC, Laptop Processors
SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 8, 2006 – The Intel® Core™2 Duo processor is the new brand for Intel Corporation’s upcoming powerful and more energy-efficient processor families for desktop and laptop computers that will arrive in the third quarter, the company announced today.
Formerly codenamed Conroe and Merom, the Intel Core 2 Duo processors for desktop and notebooks PCs respectively are based on the newly designed Intel® Core™ microarchitecture and will include two processing cores — or brains — per chip, hence the “Duo” addition. Intel will also call its highest performing processor for enthusiast and gamers the Intel® Core™2 Extreme processor.
These ground-breaking processors will be built on Intel’s advanced 65-nanometer design and manufacturing process technology that shrinks a processor’s circuitry and transistors. This combination will deliver higher-performing, yet more energy-efficient processors that will spur more capable, stylish, silent and smaller mobile and desktop PCs while saving on electricity usage.
“With this unified PC and notebook brand and microarchitecture, everyone will have a simple way to choose the most powerful and energy-efficient processors in the world, and developers will be able to more easily write optimized software just once for a variety of computing segments,” said Eric Kim, Intel senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “We want these processors to be the heart and soul of computers that are increasingly bringing magic to our digital lifestyles.”
Having a common microarchitecture for the consumer, gaming, notebook and business desktop market segments makes it easier for computer developers to create more efficient software applications and can share capabilities across all categories if necessary.
The dual-core processors will include the industry’s largest integrated cache or memory reservoir called Intel® Advanced Smart Cache that includes a unique design for faster performance on memory intensive applications. The products will also support such features as enhanced security, virtualization and manageability built right into the processors.
Consumers and businesses will also be able to purchase these processors as part of Intel’s market-focused platforms, a collection of Intel hardware and software technology innovation designed and tested together and tailored to specific computing needs. Intel offers wireless computing, in-home entertainment or business productivity platforms through the company’s Intel® Centrino® Duo mobile technology, Intel® Viiv™ technology and Intel® vPro™ technology brands respectively, all of which are powered by versions of these new processors.
Starting with these new brands, the “2” will signal the arrival of a new generation of technology to the Intel® Core™ processor line. In order to be consistent with current Intel Core processor naming, Intel will continue to use such terms as “Duo” to creatively and effectively indicate the number of processing cores per product.

We just bought two self-powered speakers, Mackie 450s. Setup was very easy. The speakers came with power cables, and nothing else. We got an XLR-XLR cable to chain the two speakers. And an XLR adapter. Plugged in our tiny iPod shuffle — and huge sound filled our apartment.
Awesome. Never have speakers so powerful been controlled from so tiny a device. Now we can throw out our pointless high-end amp, which they said was perfectly matched to the speakers, now defunct, that we bought. Liars.
British Man Invents 8,000 Mile Per Gallon Car
While it’s not quite a Lexus, it is a start. A enterprising fellow from Britain invented a car that he believes can go 8,000 miles before it needs a fill up. It cost only $3,689 to build and weighs 126 pounds. The inventor, Andy Green, is no stranger to inventing fuel efficient cars and is the current record holder in Britain for such engineering. Taking two years to build, this isn’t exactly the most powerful car on the block, powered by only a 35cc engine. The car is to be entered in a competition in France to determine the most fuel efficient car, where rules state that all such cars must be able to plod along at a blazing 18 miles per hour. So for all of you out there feeling the pinch at the gas pump, might you want consider looking like a dork and watching children in tricycles go faster than you.
Cars That Are Smarter Than You Are
Hot new auto gadgets are coming down the road--but beware privacy potholes.

A few gadgets have truly changed my life. One was a dual-screen DVD player that we put in our aging minivan. Overnight we could take the kids on long road trips without constant whining, fighting, or Happy Meal toys whizzing past my ear while I was negotiating traffic.
Yet that DVD player is nothing compared with what's coming down the pike. This year we'll see a whole fleet of automobile gadgets that combine navigation, safety, and entertainment systems, and possibly some products that deliver live video and Internet connections. But these gizmos certainly won't be cheap, and you may encounter speed bumps along the way.
The convergence of auto and digital technologies is clear from devices such as the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 audio system ($2250, www.pioneerelectronics.com, out this spring), which offers turn-by-turn directions, connects to your iPod, and plays DVDs on a 7-inch LCD. Subscribe to XM Radio's NavTraffic ($17 a month, including 150-plus channels of satellite radio), and the Z1 will alert you to traffic jams and suggest other routes. Garmin's StreetPilot 7200 ($1616, www.garmin.com, available now) also features live traffic data from XM or Clear Channel on its 7-inch touch screen, along with SD Card support so you can load new maps or play MP3s and audio books.
This spring, Jaguar plans to offer an add-on entertainment system that plays back music, photos, or movies stored on flash memory cards such as SD, MMC, or Memory Stick, as well as a satellite-based antitheft service. If your car is stolen, you can call your service provider to find out where it is; or you can subscribe to a $15-per-month plan that "breadcrumbs" your vehicle, tracking its precise location and speed every few minutes.
Once available only in luxury models, such tracking systems are becoming inexpensive and widespread enough for every car owner to have one, says Hap Flaherty, vice president of marketing for MicroTrakgps in Dallas, which makes Jaguar's antitheft tracking system.
Microsoft is getting into cars in a big way. The software colossus provides navigation software for 61 models, as well as for the AVIC-Z1 and other add-on products, says Mark Spain, director of Microsoft's Automotive Business Unit. The company also recently teamed with European automaker Fiat to bring wireless Net connectivity to the road. When drivers see a warning light indicating a car problem, they can press a button on the Fiat's dash to receive an instant text response clarifying the issue, which the car reads back aloud. Spain says such features will eventually reach U.S. cars.
The best may be yet to come. Comcast, Delphi, and Sirius plan to send live video feeds to the backseat, possibly in time for 2007's cars. Aeris Networks, which offers cellular communications services for fleet vehicles, says it's designing a system for delivering broadband movies and music that's due before year's end.
Big Brother on Board
But you could pay a big price for all this cool stuff, and not just in money. If you can track your vehicle's movements, so can the cops or any attorney with a court order. Insurance firms will want your road data; some already offer discounts to customers who share their records (provided, of course, they don't drive like maniacs).
And when it comes to sharing your data with, say, a store or a restaurant that you drive by each day, data collectors are in the driver's seat. That doesn't mean your car will get beamed ads every time you pass a KFC, but you might receive other marketing offers based on your driving habits. Every company offering these products and services vows to protect the privacy of such information, and maybe they will. But U.S. firms have an extremely poor track record on other forms of data sharing.
My advice? Don't drive blindly into this new car tech. Ease into it with your eyes open and your foot near the brake.

Report: Softbank and Apple to co-develop iPod phones
Softbank Corp. and Apple Computer Inc. plan to jointly develop cellular phone handsets that have built-in iPod digital music players and can download songs directly from Apple's iTunes Music Store, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun is reporting.
According to the report, Softbank President Masayoshi Son and Apple chief executive Steve Jobs have already met and reached a basic agreement on the cell phone partnership.
The two companies will reportedly first develop a 3G cell phone model that incorporate functions reminiscent of Apple's popular iPod, eliminating the need for consumers to carry two separate devices.
"These handsets are to be released in Japan sometime this year at the earliest," the report states.
Softbank, which became a cell phone service provider by acquiring the Japanese unit of British mobile phone company Vodafone Group Plc, was reportedly chosen by Apple because the overseas company plans to offer high-speed Internet access for cell phones in Japan.
Apple plans to later introduce similar media-enabled cell phones in the United States, the report adds. Details such as the fee for downloading songs is said to be up for discussion amongst the two companies at a later date.
The reliability of the report is unknown.
